FAQs
All your frequently asked questions about Naomi.
Devices & platforms
What iPad or iPhone do I need?
Any device running iOS 15 or later works. For the best experience we recommend a recent iPad — the team animates on an iPad Air and iPad Pro. Apple Pencil is optional; your finger works great.
Is there an Android version?
Yes — Naomi is available on Google Play for most modern ARCore-compatible phones and tablets.
Do I need a LiDAR scanner for AR?
No. AR works without LiDAR, though devices with a LiDAR scanner get higher-quality tracking and occlusion.
Models & rigging
Can I import my own models?
Yes — Naomi supports GLB, FBX and OBJ import. For humanoid characters, Naomi can build a rig automatically from a standard skeleton definition. See “Import Your Own Model”.
How do I rig a custom character?
Custom rigs are created in Unity with the free Naomi package, then exported as a Naomi asset. See “Custom rigging with Unity” for the requirements and a full video walkthrough.
Can I use models from other apps?
Yes. Export your model as OBJ (or FBX/GLB) from the other app, then import it into Naomi directly — or bring it into Unity first if it needs a custom rig.
Can I use my Maya rigs?
Maya skeletons can be brought over — set up your joints in Maya, export as FBX, and import. You can also export your Naomi animations back out as FBX to continue in Maya.
Can I sculpt or model inside Naomi?
No — Naomi focuses on animation only. For sculpting on iPad we recommend an app like Nomad Sculpt; its exports import nicely into Naomi.
Animating
Is there a limit on timeline length?
There is no hard limit. Most animations run between 50 and 250 frames.
Should I animate frame by frame or pose to pose?
Both work. Pose-to-pose with linear interpolation is usually easier to adjust afterwards, and is how the tutorials approach it.
How do I select multiple keyframes?
Hold the middle button with one finger and slide across the timeline with another to select a range. You can then move, duplicate or delete the selection — or tap elsewhere on the timeline to cancel.
How do I record a video of my animation?
Tap the red record button to start a full-screen recording. The video is saved straight to your Photos library, ready to share.
Troubleshooting
The app is not working properly — what should I check?
Make sure your device runs iOS 15 or later, reinstall the latest version from the store, toggle your internet connection off and on before launching, and keep at least 200 MB of free storage.
